painted turtles

I have been looking online at the different species of turtles and I found the painted turtles are exceptionally adorable, does anyone have any personal experience with painted turtles. Are they biters? Are they more or less sociable in comparison to RES? Will they get along with a RES?

HELP turtle\'s shell has fluid

I noticed today that my turtle felt kind of slimy, so I got a q tip and swabbed the top of his shell. Then I noticed that the q tip had pink fluid on it. Is he bleeding? Is this normal, please anyone give me advice. He has been recooperating from a respiratory infection.

I think any of the turtle names you have mentioned are good, but first see what his personality is like. If he is playful than I would go with Michealangelo. If he is kind of a hot head then I\'d go with Raphael.

That sounds vicious. There are two options that I can think of, either seperate them indefintely and create two habitats or give on of them to another responsible knowledgeable turtle owner. I personally would not trust either of them to not hurt the other since there has already been blood shed.

I purchased a 50w exo terra tight beam basking bulb. I originally wanted to purchase a 25w since my tank is only ten gallons. The 50w was too much it lights up my entire tank. Do any of you know if a regular 25w bulb would be okay to put in place of the 50w basking bulb. In addition to my bulb diffi...

Re: new turtle owner needs advice

Those ponds are inadequate since they are usually too small to fit a water heater. Water should be between 80 and 84 degrees(during the day and night)for babies. The light needs to be one that gives of UVA and UVB light, I would recommend Zoomed reptile light 5.0. If they go without UVB light it wil...

I would keep the water between 80 and 84 degrees, it will help them digest better. What exactly have you been offering them? The best thing I could suggest would be earthworms chopped up or crickets. Roll their food in calcium powder about once a week, and be sure to use calcium powder that contains...

Fluval filters I here are excellent, but expensive. If your planning on getting a second turtle I would make that 30 gallon tank into a 55 gallon tank(which is suitable for one adult male slider). A good rule of thumb when purchasing filters is to buy a filter that is used for tanks twice(or more) a...

I guess just like people turtles have their own personalities. My turtle doesn\'t bite me when I stick my hand in the tank to fix the heater. Turtles are pretty smart so maybe if you tell them \'no\' when they bite they will start to learn to not bite the hand that feeds them.

What are the genders of your turtles. If it is two males than the behavior may only get worse and the two should be seperated before one is seriously hurt. If keeping multiple turtles in one confinement it is always best to get two females and one male. This creates a nice balance.
