:!: :!: Ok well she is very stubborn and deathly afraid of the cam. They look like something has worn away the color of her skin (almost like a scar) and left 2 seperate white areas on either side. They start from the underside of her mouth (jaw bone???) to just half way above where her neck becomes...

Raw area around my turts jaw

Look I have 2 Turts (Skyler,my Boy, and Zippy,my Girl) for some reason Zippy has two raw areas on either side of her mouth. I dont think they hurt her but I am not sure. Does anyone know what this is, what causes it, and what I can do to help heal her.

Re: RES has lump on side of head

Yes your turt has an ear infection and should be taken to a vet. Aturtles ear does not drain fluid like ours do and it solidifies with no place to go causing the lump. My little guy had the same problem w/ both ears and I took him to a vet to have it removed. He told me some people remove it themsel...

Re: What size of rocks should I be using

River rocks are the best to use if you use stone @ all in your tank. I find not using any helps keep your tank cleaner and is more easier to clean. Besides that I had a mishap w/a stone accidently finding its way under my 29 gallon tank during cleaning and I filled it w/water and left for few hours....

Re: out of the water?

Well a few months ago my smallest of my RES\' had to have minor ear surgery(ear infection).I had to keep him out of his tank for at least three days while his sores were open. They can go a couple of days w/out eating so I would seriously recomend keeping him out of the water completely for a couple ...

You can tell when a shell is just peeling..It peels like our skin(flakey). These white spots , however, could be a fungus. If you can give me a better description of how they look I might be able to help. GOOD LUCK!

Re: Newbie needs help with RES

If your turtle needs more calcium and vits. you might want to try using a seperate herpative additive. You can sprinkle powder on your shrimp. Also check your PH level of your water.Quick question...how do you have your tank set up?

Keep the gravel for now but evenyually thet will start to eat it and get sick..Plus you will get tired of cleaning the tank all of the time.It gets old after a while.Take it from me I bought my son his 2 turts from a flea market and they do break your wallet!!!!

Re: Need some suggestions from the vets about tanks

Hi! I have a 29 gallon tall w/2 RES\'..I just bought a Fluval 304 last month and my tank so far has been extremly clean and less smelly. I also have nothing in the bottom of my tank;it\'s easier to keep clean(my opinion).
