Re: Turtle Shipping

Hey everyone!!! I just want to let you know that Penny and Lulla arrived safe and sound today in Florida! The links above were a HUGE help. I didn\'t know that UPS shipped turtles, but thanks to you, I do now. I wound up going with them because there was one right across the street from my house. Th...

Turtle Shipping

Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone here has ever shipped their turtles before. I am moving across the country with my two RES Penny and Lulla, and none of the airlines will allow me to bring them on the plane. Because I don\'t have a vehicle, I am forced to ship them DHL, the only carrier that ...

Re: Loss of shell color?

My turtles had the same problem. A melting painting is an EXCELLENT description. The colors and lines were very sharp and well defined, and now both turtles\' shells (both top and bottom) are more blurry. One turtle has gotten much darker (The one I believe is female) and the other turtle got much l...

Re: URGENT Skin Problem

Thank you so much for your advice everyone. I am treating the wound and I will probably have to take her to the vet soon. The only thought I had about what could cause it is I had a problem with my heat lamp and one of the bulbs broke. I have a screen over the tank, and I cleaned the tank out right ...

Thank you for the advice. I don\'t have Betadine solution...would hydrogen peroxide work? Thats what I use to clean my cuts. I have uploaded pictures of Lulla to my webspace...let me know if these links don\'t work. http://users.hanson.net/HeroicDiva/Lulla3.jpg http://users.hanson.net/HeroicDiva/Lul...

URGENT Skin Problem

My turtle Lulla Belle seems to be having some real problems. About 2 months ago I posted because she had a discoloration on her neck. After investigating, I determined that it was a cut, and I treated it as such. I cleaned and disinfected the cut, and she had been fine. It looked like everything was...

Re: URGENT! Skin discoloration?

It does look a lot like the picture of the cut/burn/bite. I feel so much better seeing that it looks like something fairly harmless and treatable. I was concerned that it was a fungus or septecemia. Thank you VERY much for sending me that link...I will sleep easier and feel better being away for Tha...

In regard to septecemia...it looks more like a cut (do turtles bleed red blood?) than tinting, however, I\'m not an expert.

Re: URGENT! Skin discoloration?

I don\'t think that there is anything hot in the tank...the only electricity to the tank goes to the heat lamp, which is a good distance away. Nothing else near the tank should be hot. I had a thought...I\'ve been having a problem with crappy heat lamp bulbs from Reptisun...and a few weeks ago, a bu...

Re: URGENT! Skin discoloration?

Upon closer inspection, there appears to be a bit of red in the middle, which looks like there is some sort of cut. Is there anything I can do for a cut, or does it just have to heal? To give you a more clear picture of what this looks like...on the back of her neck, there is a circle of rough, flak...

URGENT! Skin discoloration?

I picked up my RES to clean her tank today, and when I did, she stuck her head and neck way out of her shell. I noticed that on the back of her neck, the skin was a muddy brown color, and it almost looked like there was some sort of texture. Does anyone know what this could be? Please let me know AS...

I feed my turtle a daily mix of crunchy pellets, soft pellets, and a turtle treat mix of dried shrimp and insects. Is this varied enough?

Re: Turtle Fight?

Well then I\'m guessing either Penny or Lulla is not a Penny or a Lulla. Penny is the bigger of the two so I guess she could be showing her dominance. Re: going away for week? can i leave food?

I\'ve left my turtles for a week or so in the past, and I leave a full food dish on their basking rock, or some veggies floating in there, and they\'ve been fine. My turtles are smart enough to pick up the food and bring it over into the water, and they don\'t appear to over eat too much. Good luck ...

Thanks for your responses. I watch them carefully when they eat, and I know that the smaller turtle is definately getting enough food, but the large one eats faster, so its possible that she is eating more. I\'ll keep an eye on them.
