Re: Turtle Shell

I wish I had found out about these sites sooner. I paid about 39 bucks for my UVB light. It\'s pretty cheap here. I have the UVB set up right over part of the basking area and the heating lamp is right next to it. Is that setting alright?

Re: Turtle Shell

I raised the water in the tank so it\'s now about 3/4 full. I also added another brick into the tank to make the basking area higher. I just bought the Zoomed UVB 5.0 light 36 inches. I hope that will help with my turtles shell problem. Where did you get your UVA/UVB mercury vapor bulb? It is a pain...

Thank you so much for your help Mariza! I printed everything you wrote and I\'m going to go to the pet store and buy the calcium powder supplement and cuttle bone. Turtle Shell

Hi All!

I was wondering if there is something wrong with my turtles shell. Does it look ok because the end part of the shell curls up. Does anyone know what\'s causing it?

Re: Tank setup

If you plan on getting a large tank and paying a lot for it, I would go a lot bigger then 20 gallons. Especially since you have two turtles. You\'re probably going to end up needing a 100 gallon tank or more. 20 gallons won\'t be enough room for the two of them. I only have one turtle and I have her...

Re: RES sunning outside

I was thinking of getting a kiddy pool outside my self, but i plan on putting my turtle outside when I am present. You do sort of have to watch the temp because with the direct sunlight, it will make the pool hot. You might want to make a shady area for them to cool off.

If you have a good filter then you only need to clean it like once a month. If you don\'t have a good filter or no filter at all then probably every two days or once a week.

Re: Question about new turtle

Just give your turtle some time to adjust to their new setting. It took my turtle about a month or so before she started feeling comfortable. Now she doesn\'t mind me being next to her while she basks and when I sit by the tank she comes near me.

Cheers!

Re: GETTING SICK OF IT

When your turtles are young they tend to favor meat more then vegatables. I heard you can feed it turkey, shrimp or ham, but not to much of it. Also try giving your turtles peas and carrots. My turtle likes the carrot and is slowy starting to like peas. Also with the pellets you might want to feed i...

Re: My turtle hasn\'t eaten for about 10 days and he is just

Yeah river rocks aren\'t that nice, but with those background scenaries that they sell at the pet store, it doesn\'t look that bad. Marbles should be fine if your turtle is small but when it gets bigger s/he might eat it and it may not pass through their system and they could die.

What you may want to do is separate the turtles when it comes to feeding time. That way there wont be any fighting and everyone will get their equal amount.

I believe your turtle is shedding, which is normal for them. Let the shedding come off naturally. It might hurt your turtle if you help it out.

Re: My turtle hasn\'t eaten for about 10 days and he is just

Yeah your turtle probably wasn\'t comfortable with your first set up. That also happened to me as well. You know having a tank with no rocks is kind of boring looking and plain. I know when I did that, my turtle looked a little bored because there wasn\'t anything for s/he to play around with. I rec...

How old is your turtle? If it\'s still a baby then maybe s/he just needs to adjust to their new setting. When I found my turtle it took about a month or so for s/he to adjust to their setting before s/he started to feel comfortable and start eating. Now s/he begs me for food and ocassionally will br...

Re: New Home/New Filter???

I had the same 501 ZooMed filter as yours and I used it when I had a 10 gallon tank. I would recommend for you to get a much larger filter for your 40 gallon. Maybe one that should be used for a 60 or 80 gallon tank.

Are you planning on getting a water turtle?? I\'m not sure if you can have frogs and crabs in the same tank with a turtle. Hopefully someone can answer that for you. Also only feed your turtle the amount that could fit inside the turtles head not including the neck. I heard that turtles don\'t really know their limit on food and always begs. You don\'t want your turtle to grow too fast or be obese.

Turtles are beggers and will always beg you for some food. I have chairs on each side of the tank. I\'ll sit on one side and my RES Eugena will come to me and then I\'ll go to the other side and she\'ll follow. It\'s so cute, so ocasionally I do breakdown and feed her a pellet or two as a snack.

Now when I buy the heat lamp, I\'m going to position it above my turtles rock. Is it ok to have the Super UV Coil Lamp positioned above the swimming area?

Turtle Growth

I\'ve had my turtle for about 4 months and I\'m guessing she\'s about 5 or 6 months old. She was found in our drive way and I decided to adopt her. I\'m guesstimating she\'s about two inches big. I was just wondering how fast the turtles growing rate is. Does anyone know?

Thx
