Re: backgrounds....

Nope, you don\'t have to use any tape. The vaseline holds everything down very well. You do have to be careful when lifting your tank because your background will slip. If you try it, let me know how it works for you!

backgrounds....

I learned something that I thought some of you might be able to use (or already know).... when attaching a background with tape, a lot of times you can\'t get it tight enough so you can see it through the glass very well. After you have it cut to the perfect size, apply a very thin layer of vaseline...

Re: Found turtle, keep or release?

Turtles of any kind are NOT easy pets for people to have. They are very dirty, and need frequent water changes. They require a lot of serious time and money. The setup that they require is a tank, a lid, an area to bask, a heater, a filter and lighting. A bulb alone for a tank can run you anywhere f...

What KIND of turtle do you have? If it is a Red Eared Slider, it is a water turtle. If it is a Box Turtle it is a land turtle and only needs water to drink. RES (red eared slider) need water to swim, but they also need a place where they can get out to bask in the \"sun\" that you will pro...

Shedding is perfectly normal. As long as your turtle is eating, swimming, and basking, there is no need to worry. The drops for the tank are called \"Turtle Clean\" and is aproximately $5. A little bit goes a long way.

shell algae

I know this question has been asked before... how do you STOP algae from forming on the shell, and how do you get it off. Her tank is clean, but that seems to be the first place it starts. I use a toothbrush to scrub her, but it just keeps coming back.

One other thing.... I like the idea of something being hooked to the side, that way it doesn\'t take up any of the swimming area like big rocks do.- just my opion.

In Joes tank, I used 100% silicone and put a peice of plexiglass at one end, on a slant. Then I put silicone over the entire top and poured aquarium gravel over top and pushed it all down into the silicone. When it was completly dried, I brushed off all the loose stones. She hasn\'t gotten to use it...

I just let it float in Joes tank, but she quit using it after about 3 days. I don\'t think it would hurt to scrape off little pieces, afterall, that\'s what they get when they bite it. The only thing is, it\'s good for them to bite it off themselves - so do both....

Ok, I finally got an answer. I emailed someone that is an aquarium expert, he said as long as the silicone says 100% on the tube and their are absolutley NO extra added ingredients, it is safe to use on aquariums. You must let it \"cure\" (or set) for 48 hours before filling with water.

First off.... DO NOT FEED YOUR TURTLE ICEBERG LETTUCE!! Other kinds are ok - also, no spinich.... Iceberg lettuce has NO nutritional value at all, even for humans, and causes problems with turtles. (it does with hamsters also!) Check out this page: http://www.allturtles.com/care_sheets/water_turtle_...

Iceberg lettuce causes digestive problems and it has no nutritional value whatsoever, even for people.
