Re: White spot on head - help please

Hi, To me, that spot in the picture looks like injury caused by hitting back shell. Did your turtle recently fell or maybe water is not deep enough where he/she jumps in? Or if you have other turtle in the same tank, it could have caused by biting. If the wound is not too deep, it should heal up slo...

Turtles lay eggs in a sandy area around this time of the year. Most of turtle species dig up earth and create egg chambers to deposit numbers of eggs in it. If a female turtle was kept in a tank without access to suitable egg laying area, she would give up laying eggs and try to either eject them or...

Hi, To me, it looks like a type of American Box Turtle, perhaps Eastern Box Turtle. Eastern Box Turtles live in woodland near body of water. Welcome to the forum!
Red Eared Slider is a good turtle. I basically grew up with one since I was like 5, 6 years old.
She is still kicking after 30 some years later.
Personally I think they are one of the most beautiful turtles out there.

Carbon will not clear out algae but it will house more beneficial bacteria in the filter. Every little added surface is ...

Depending on environmental factors like temperature, humidity, oxygen level etc it could take some time. I don’t think there is a set time you can go by. Turtles will always beg for food, and once they are fed, they will beg for more.

Hi, Turtles are not conventionally smart animals. For example, they don’t listen to your calls or play with you like dogs do, they don’t remember maze like mice do, or they don’t understand clear walls like humans do. Turtles are smart in different ways. They know how to survive. And for that, they ...

Hi, Many people think of lighting as cause of green algae but true cause of algae is nitrate in water. Turtle tanks are prone to have higher levels of nitrate and nitrite due to high volume of waste compared to fish tanks. In order to control nitrate and nitrite in water we need: 1. Large volume of ...

Hi, Those slimy-ness comes from unwanted bacteria/fungus/algae grows in the tank. Sliders of this size need a lot of water and good filtration, ideally something like a pond. Hi, I agree, the smell might be coming from over cleaning. A good way to let good bacteria to colonize your tank is frequent small scale water changes. Usually injury can heal up but leaves some discolored skin for a while. If the discolored part doesn’t get smaller over time, or spread, it might be fungal infection instead of just an injury. Either way, probably the best idea is to have a herp vet to take a look at him. About outside basking tank,...
