I found a turtle, what should I do? There are a few questions you should ask yourself. Check out the tips below.
- Don’t do anything at all. If the turtle is in its natural habitat and is safe, then you will be doing more damage to it by taking it out of that place.
- So what do you do if the turtle is in an unsafe place? Well that depends, if it is in the road you should move it to the side of the road. Be sure to take it to the side it was headed to otherwise it will try to cross again after you leave. If the turtle is somewhere unsafe, or somewhere where it won’t survive, take it to a location where you know it will thrive and other turtles live.
- If you found a sick turtle, you can either nurse it back to health and keep it, or adopt it out once healthy. Do not return it to the wild if it has been kept as a “pet turtle” for a decent length of time. Check out the first aid section for tips on nursing the turtle.
- This turtle doesn’t live here? Well you could take it in and give it a good home. It could be possible someone dumped it because they couldn’t care for it. Check out our article on what you should consider before taking in a turtle.
