What I believe to be a eastern Snapping turtle, walked by my window and caught my eye. I watched the turtle move pretty fast toward the lake when it turned away. A few hours later I left in my car to discover the turtle was under the car. When I arrived back home the turtle made its way to a bed in a corner of my house and was starting to bury itself in the mulch. It is currently buried 90% of its body in the mulch and has not moved in several hours.

Can anyone explain what that turtle is doing?

Laying eggs?

My guess is that it is trying to hide or hibernate (if it is too cold for it), check on it the next day, if you see that it covered the hole back up, it was laying eggs, if it is still there, it is either hiding or hibernating, and since it is a snapping turtle, I would leave it alone. Smile
