I rescued a turtle from being tossed in a polluted river today, and brought him home. I have no idea what he is or how to take care of him. He's green, smooth, and looks like he would live in the water all the time. I'll try and put up pictures.
I need to know what he is and how to care for him! I'll be rehoming as soon as I can, but for now he's in a plastic tub with room temp. tap water. I am afraid the chlorine will hurt him.
I'm going to put up pics in a bit but PLEASE tell me anything I should do and stuff so he's ok.
Thanks |

| How do I post pictures? I'm new to this kind of forum. The turtle has little "hairs" on his chin, if that helps. I think he might be an African Helmeted Terrapin, but that's just looking at other pics online.[/img] |

You need to host the pictures somewhere like flickr or photobucket...
then put the URL for that image in between the img tags you'll see above. Such as (img)http://www.somewhere.com/picture.jpg(/img) (only with the square brackets of course).
Get some water conditioner like repti-safe or jurassi-safe or whatever if you're worried about tap water being too chlorinated... it's usually a good idea regardless. |

tap water is very bad for turtles as it corrode's there shell and harms them. you should get some water conditioner like the other person said or you could just leave the water for 24 hours and then the chlorine will evaporate. Chlorine will only stay in the water for 24 hours. _________________ )@$0/\/ |

Hmmm, that girl hasn't posted the pics yet...
I got some drops and he's in safe water now, and is eating a little lettuce and some mealie pupae. Is this ok for now? |
