|
Last night my husband found our baby red eared turtle belly up and concluded that he was gone. I checked him out and he was lifless, eyes closed and limp. I got sad because we had just lost his little buddy last week when we were on vacation, so when we got home i fixed up his tank and bought him some new gear for his home. I asked my husband if he would bury the turtle before he went to work, I didn't want the kids to find Him. This morning when we got up the turtle is swimming and crawling on His rocks but he still is not eatnig and makes these funny yawning movements with his mouth. I think I heard him hiss, all I now is Ive never had an animal look that dead, only to find it alive and somewhat well 8 hrs later.
Can anyone explain this?
Thanks,
Concerened Turtle Mom |

Wow, that's incredible.
I've never had it happen to me, but I have read that drowned turtles can be rescued if they're pulled out of the water in time... speculatively, you got to him before it was too late and being out of the water let him breathe.
What is his habitat like? Water amount, size of tank, temperature, etc... if you just lost one turtle and this guy looks like he nearly drowned as well, maybe there is something wrong... |

The yawning might be a Respiratory Infection (RI), you might want to check with a vet to be sure. _________________

| Totally off-topic, but Straykingfisher, what the heck is going on in your avatar? I gave it a really good look for the first time and it's freaking me out! Ha. |

Brieski12, how's the little guy doing? Did he make it? Was it an RI or a successful turtle drowning rescue? _________________ I brake for turtles! |
