Hello,
Please HELP! One of our dachshunds found a box turtle on our property. The shell at the bottom has been knawed white. There is a crack. I know nothing about turtles. The vet in town knows nothing. It's the weekend and I don't want him/her to die. As far as I can tell there are no injuries to the body inside. When we found the turtle s/he was COMPLETELY inside the shell. We put him/her in the sink last night with a bit of water and broccoli and cauliflower. Today I added bread. We treated the shell with neosporin. I really want to talk with someone so I'm giving you my home phone. 423-563-9606. I'm Lynn Woolsey.
I also wonder what kind of stress this has put on the turtle. Imagine a dog chewing on your shell??!!! Once we realized what it was we were all so upset. What our dog was doing is part of his breeding but......it shouldn't have been on a poor unassuming turtle! Someone with knowledge, please, please call me. There's not enough information for me fast enough.
Moderators, once someone has come to the aid of our turtle, will you please erase this number? Thanks.
Someone who knows about this, PLEASE call. I have no idea what to do and it's the weekend.
Many, many thanks. |

How did the turtle make out? As long as there was no blood or gaping wounds and the shell was not 'chewed' to the point of interfering with the movement of his legs and head, then it should heal ok with the right care and cleanings. Hopefully you found some information online and through other parts of this site.
Hope it was a happy ending! Also, always remember to set your new friends free in a safe area near where you found them after they are healed! _________________ I brake for turtles! |
