Thanks for the welcome!
I was going to get 2 Musks but after reading the post about individuals I think I might just go for one! They're going to have a huge tank to themselves though! Just got a 28 gallon prepared! |

| ya, only get one musk, they are a very agressive species. they need to be able to stand up and breathe, so they don;t need much water at all, maybe 3 inches |

Yo. I have 3 common musk turtles and they've gotten along fine for a year now. But they're still babies, I'll separate them when they get larger. They're still only 1.5" long but I have them swimming in 10" deep water since they passed an inch, before that they were in 5" deep. Is that deep for this turtle? supposedly yes, but I don't agree. They love swimming and have absolutely no trouble in my tank. They've hunt down 30 feeder goldfish so I would say mine are doing perfectly fine.
But that's just my experience, yours could be different. I just think a lot of care sheets, while "optimal" they may be, are just fundamental guidelines at best. I think you need to cater to your own specific turtle based on what you experience with it. Not everyone is created equal and neither are turtles.
My time chart of turtles
2 RES to 8 RES to 30 RES to 6 RES & 2 Musks to 2 RES & 4 Musks to just 3 Musks.
They're all hatch-lings that's why I had so many over the course of a year and a half. I've found good homes for all the hatch-lings and just keep musks now because they're so small. I don't like how rapid RES grow. I think you'll be happy with the musk. It's very cute and adorable. It climbs though so make sure you have nothing for it to climb out of the tank with. |

Hi
Thank you for the advice, very helpful. Think I'll go for the 1 musk and see how we get on. No worries about climbing out cos I've thought of that and tank will be secure.
Thanks again, will let you know when I get it which shouldnt be long cos I'm so impatient.
Great RES pics btw |
