Ok I have a gorgeous wee boy turtle, nearly two years old. Such a character and heaps of fun.
I have noticed that in the past couple of days he is not eating all his food as usual and he is not basking as much.
I have just cleaned out his turtle tank and have noticed that the glass on his thermometer has been broken!!
What can I do??
Is there even any thing wrong?
I am supposed to be going away on a holiday for a few days in a few hours and am not sure what to do with him I rang the vets here in NZ and they have no idea?? Should I take him with me and if I do how long can he be out of water. I can take a small tank for feeding him in, but not a whole setup _________________ cant find something nice to say....... |

Tough call.
It is winter in your neck of the woods so a slow down in eating and basking is understandable. I have had a couple cases of broken glass and the turtles never ingested any but that is not to say yours didn't.
Taking your turtle with you is not TO difficult. You can do a dry tank situation if the rooms you will be staying in are warm enough. Just make sure to soak him in water as often as you can to hydrate and eat. As far as how long they can be out of watewr. We have had people loose their turtles for a few days and they recover just fine. I would not recommend doing that but it has happened. Also when they sell turtles overseas they are transported without water for a couple days. When you travel place wet paper towels in the carrier to keep him hydrated.
Good luck. I hope everything turns out well for him. _________________

i hope he will be ok if he starts acting dif from now let your vet know there is a possibility that he ingested glass. i use plastic thermometers so they dont break as easily and so my turtles dont chew on em or think bout eating them and i play w/my turtles on my bed 4 about an hour a day then later i do training in the grass and they all listen to voice commands now im so proud hope you and your turtles have many happy years
