Hello! I recieved this turtle from a friend today because she does not know how to care for them. I have a tank ready but I am not 100% sure what species turtle it is. He is still very small. I think it may be a yellow belly slider but it has a brown shell and it is throwing me off. It has claws on all of its feet and ridges on it's back with a yellow belly. It does not have red ears. I would really appeciate any suggestions from you! Here are some pictures!

yes they do
the minimum size of the aquarim should be 24 by 12 by 12 just for one hatchling the bigger the better. the water depth for grown turtles should be about 6 to ten inches deep. but for yours right now should have about 2inches deep, to start with! slowly add alittle of water over time. y so shallow? so when standing on hinds legs they can reach and obtain air easly. Go to your local pet store to get some turtle food and a heater set the temp of the heater around 77' - 86'.
artificial sunlight (lamp) should be around for the turtle so e can catch some light 20-40 watt it should be put on a cupple of hours a day there also should be a land area and some floating fake plants around . for the turtle food u should try getting the cut up kind the small turtles have a hard time trying to eat it. Then your goin to need to get a filter. in my turtle tank we use the "Magnum 350 convertible canister filter" but i warn u its very noisy. Rolling Eyes
if any questions just ask

Yeah I have a undertank heater. The thermometer usually reads around 82 when the lamp is on.

I have a question. I read on a website that you can feed turtles tuna from the can (the kind in water). Is that true? and is it recommended?

i would't feed em tuna because it will make a great big mess and it would make the water smell but if u feed em in anouther bowl go right ahead but only as a treat. i would stick to ReptoMin witch u have already and fish like rosy reds and minnows from bait stores and somtimes a varity of little worms. and fyi they grow fast! and r messy!
