I have 2 red eared sliders in same tank. been together since very small. they are over a year old. Now one is overpowering the other, like its my tank kind of thing. Is this normal or do i need to do something. it is happing a lot. The picked on turtle seems to be not very happy at all. Only one is doing this. They do not fight as of now. Thanks, Gin mom to Toot & George. Confused

Yes turtles are more of solitary creatures... They don't typically live in close proximity with other turtles except when they are basking/sun bathing. Turtles tend to get aggressive towards other turtles when kept in the same tank, thats why it is suggested that if you have more than one turtle to be prepared to have to sepperate them when they get alittle older. This is the case for you... You need to sepperate them bc the dominat turtle will eventually wound or kill the other turtle. It's not a phase... and it wont stop. 2 tanks now... I know that sucks, and is going to get expensive... but you really need to sepperate them. OR.. if your tank is big enough and the turtles are still small you can buy a tank divider. (however, this means you are cuttin their room in half and remember that they need about 10 gal per in of the turtle.

Turtles have been known to bite off limbs or decapatate the weaker turtle. They can get very violent, especially females. Confused
