I recently got 3 Baby Red Eared Sliders and bought a 40 gallon long tank is this size sufficient for these 3 little guys? I've read from different web sites a 40 gallon is enough and others have said I'll need a bigger one in 5 years? How big of a tank will I need and in how many years?
Please let me know? Turtle Newbie. |

The 40 long will work well for babies for a little while. I personally have a 40 that is really wide, but my turtle is pretty big (she needs a new tank soon). You will need to upgrade and possibly seperate the turtles as they get older, probably not for a while, but sooner than 5 years.
When they are full grown you are looking at atleast a 100 for two of them (some people would say a 100 for only one turt), but that is pretty far down the line. I would just get a 100 in a few years for all three and then if you have turtle problems (them not getting along) you can always use the 40 and 100 and keep the problematic turtles seperated. |

you need about an 85-100 gallon tank for a little while then you need to up grade. If they are fighting or getting in each others way then get a bigger tank PRONTO!!! Turtles are VERY teratoreal!
