I recently got 3 Baby Red Eared Sliders and bought a 40 gallon long tank is this size sufficient for these 3 little guys? I've read from different web sites a 40 gallon is enough and others have said I'll need a bigger one in 5 years? How big of a tank will I need and in how many years?

Please let me know? Turtle Newbie.

The 40 long will work well for babies for a little while. I personally have a 40 that is really wide, but my turtle is pretty big (she needs a new tank soon). You will need to upgrade and possibly seperate the turtles as they get older, probably not for a while, but sooner than 5 years.

When they are full grown you are looking at atleast a 100 for two of them (some people would say a 100 for only one turt), but that is pretty far down the line. I would just get a 100 in a few years for all three and then if you have turtle problems (them not getting along) you can always use the 40 and 100 and keep the problematic turtles seperated.

you need about an 85-100 gallon tank for a little while then you need to up grade. If they are fighting or getting in each others way then get a bigger tank PRONTO!!! Turtles are VERY teratoreal!
