Hi All!
I have had a RES for a few years now "Yertle" and just got another about 1/2 or 1/4 of the size of my original one. I was very excited to give Yertle a friend to "hang" with...... PROBLEM.... Yertle attacked the poor little one and quite viciously too! I quickly removed the little one and have it in a separate tank.... I got a new larger tank about 6 mnths ago with the intent of having a new addition......will I ever be able to put the 2 turtles in the same tank?? I am extremely nervous about introducing the 2 again.....
Thank you for your time and help!

| I had wanted to get another RES also many years ago and after researching it in various places, I learned that unless you start with the two together or if they are the same size, you can not give your RES a buddy. Enjoy your turtles but do not risk a deadly attack if they are placed together. |

Hello
I had the same issue as well. This story is a little diffrent. The smaller turtle was the one that's mean. And even when I bought a bigger tank it still kept on biting him.Than be vary territorieal. _________________ Joshua. I love God's Creations |

I had this happen with my one year-old Sampson. He snapped at a baby I rescued from my aunt. He was indeed too small and looked too much like food.
I eventually bought two more RES who were half the size of Sampson and he never took a bit at them. They all live in harmony as we speak.
.... I just don't think it wise to have a tiny tot in with the big wig... He wil need to go in a separate tank until he is bigger....then maybe you can introduce him to the big guy...
I have two extra 10 gallon tanks if you're in Houston... _________________ 3 RES: Sampson AKA Sammie, Van Gogh, and Sonic

Hi,
I have a female RES that I had for several years and introduces a male RES to the tank at first she did not like him and he had to stay in the corner or she would go after him. She never actually hurt him. I have had him about three years and now he beats up on her in the spring so bad that I have to separate them. My female became sick with pneumonia from moving her back and forth and the vet bills were unbelievable. She is on the mend, but I am thinking about giving the male to a local pet shop that sells turtles. So I would agree that turtles are best alone or kept in separate tanks. |
