Hi everyone my name is JEnn. As of yesterday I was given 2, red ear sliders from a co-worker.
I Know nothing about them except what I have read on the net ~n~ from all the posts on here.
They seem to be very helpful Smile
I think I figured out that one is female and one is male. Laughing
Stop by and say hi... I'd be happy to hear from ya.

Thank you!!!!
I just bought them a 55 gallon tank. I'm trying to set it up as soon as possible. I think they should be happy in that?!?!?! ( at least for a little while ) lol.

But still no names for them Sad

Hi again.. I just wanted to let you know what I found out today about my new turtles. They were owned by a 8 yo girl. They are 2.5 years old, they have been kept in that tiny 10 gallon tank sense they were the size of quarters with only 3 inches of water in that tank. They were being way over feed. This is per the aunt who I got them from.

So when I put them in the 55 gallon tank. I filled it up to the point that they would be able to stretch on there tippy toes to reach the air. To also give them enough room to swim.... Well they don't know how to swim. Sad It makes me sad. It's kinda funny to watch them try though. Kinda like watching a baby taking his first step.
Half of the tank has river rocks the other half has is just the tank glass.... untell we get to buy more, when they get over the no rock part they skid on it like a dog on hard wood floors. haha
So I figured as they learn how to use their little flippers ~n~ their legs get stronger. The water is a good height for now untell they master the water. Then I'll add a little at a time untell the tank is filled to a good level and they are better swimmers. I'm hoping this will be a good plan and will work out best.

So far they really seem to enjoy being able to move around more:)

If anyone has any other suggestions I'll listen!!!! Very Happy

congrats on getting a turtle... do they have a basking area where they can get completely out of the water to dry off? they need one of those, preferably with a UV light above it... good luck!

Yeah, I think I got them everything they need well except for names lol
I did have one of those basking areas that you put in the corner but, When they got startled and jumped in the water they would get their necks caught in the hard plastic thing that held it to the glass.. so I took it out and got a Medium size Turtle Dock which they both can fit on better. They have 3 different lights, uva/uvb, a heat lamp and a night time light.
I have filled the 55gallon tank 3/4 full yesterday. They are loving it!! My 11 year old daughter was worried that they wouldnt be able to handle that much water. Smile she's sooo funny when she worries. But they are doing great in it. Smile
