Yes, I just found a turtle on the road, he was kind of weird looking, I mean I have not seen one that looked like this. He has a oval shaped shell, webbed feet, and he has yellow marking along the sides of his face. He has not tried to bite. I know he is a water turtle because of the feet, but I don't know exactly what kind it is. If you could help me I would appreciate it. Thanks. |

What part of the country are you from? Generally the yellow markings on an aquatic turtle could mean a painted turtle, yellow bellied slider, or a red earred slider. All three are pretty common, but it's hard to tell without a pic.
Check out some pics online to see if you can match it to a certain species.
I get so nervous seeing turtles on the side of the roads this time of year. I always stop to help them cross! There's nothing more sad than a flat turtle. |

is it mainly dark olive green/black in color with a red/orange stomach and red/yellow markings on the neck as well? if so, its probably a painted turtle, either eastern, western, or southern (you can tell the difference by the way their scutes are lined up)... if its primarily green with the red "ear" markings on its head its probably a red eared slider... (sorry i cant give such a great description of res or ybs, i dont have a live turtle of that breed to refer to ) _________________ I'm back! Hope I can help...
