I NOTICED THE OTHER DAY THAT MY LARGER TURTLE RUFUS ALL OF A SUDDEN HAD A SWOLLEN CHEEK. I THINK HE OR SHE SWALLED A ROCK)|(THE GRAVEL) DO YOU THINK THIS IS POSSIBLE OR DOES HE OR SHE HAVE A DESEASE.
COULD YOU PLEASE ;TELL ME. ALSO MY TWO TURTLES ONE VERY LARGE AND THE OTHER SMALL HAVE GROWN UP TOGETHER. I NEVER SEE MY LARGER TURTLE GET MAD AT THE OTHER ONE. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO TELL IF ONE A BOY OR GIRT?

| Sounds more like an ear infection. Yes turtles can swallow gravel. The best substrate is large river rocks or nothing. |

If your two turtles are roughly the same age and one is larger than the other, chances are the largest is a girl. Other factors are that males have extra long front claws.
What kind of turtles are they by the way? That can change things.
Also, puffy ears tend to be an infection and they say it needs to be treated by an vet, but I haven't had experience with it. |
