I was wondering if someone could please help me. I have a three toed box turtle that only eats mealworms. I noticed that her eyes started to get a bit swollen. I went and got the eye drops from the pet store. The eyes have improved but she is quite the picky turtle. I have tried to get her to eat all sorts of things but she just walks over them. I know that the swollen eyes are a vitamin A problem, I couldn't find a liquid reptile vitamin but I got vitamin A pills. Broke one and dipped one of the mealworms in it. She ate it.

I am concerned about the toxic level of the vitamin A. Will this hurt my little turtle? I was thinking of doing it maybe twice a week.

Have you had a luck with your turtle since your post? My turtle also developed swollen eyes yesterday and I'm nervous.

It seems that a lot of times this points towards a more serious infection. I'm interested to hear as to how yours made out with the eye drops.

I gave her a squeeze of vitamin A and got some of the reptile vitamins. She is doing wonderful. Her eyes have cleared up and she's more active. I have to sneak her vitamins to her on her mealworms since that is all she will eat.

Yes she has gotten better. I got some of the powdered vitamins. Reptical or something like that and I give them to her two-three times a week on her meal worms. She is more active and her eyes aren't as swollen. She doesn't seem to rub them as much either. You can get the vitamin at any pet store, I think they might have a spray one also.

How are yours doing, better I hope?

You can purchase Vit A at your local grocery store. It comes in softgels and you just take a pin and poke a hole in one and put one drop in the turtles mouth every other day if ill. After 4 doses go to twice a week until you see improvement.
