If its really bad, I will pull out all the stuff with algae when I clean the tank (take the turtles out too) and wash it with warm/hot water and just use one of those green, rough scrubbing pads. It gets most of the algae off, enough to make me happy. I have been trying plecos to eat the algae, they work, but my turtle likes to eat them and I have gone through like 7 of them.

If you have your tank near a window, you might want to move it. It will slow down the algea growth.

whether it is near a window or not will not make much difference. the uva and the uvb lights used for turtle/reptile tanks, on top of the water makes it perfect breeding grounds for algea (a type of underwater plant) i get tonnes of algea and my blinds are always shut in my room. it is the lights, not the window.
