Tomorrow, I'm planning on giving my turtle's tank a really thorough cleaning. And tonight when I took her out, I noticed her shell looked a little lackluster and...scummy? I've heard you can use mild soap and a toothbrush to scrub your turtle's shell, but is there any precautions I should take, like not get the soap on her skin or something of the nature? And what kind of soap would be considered "mild?" I think all I have is Irish Springs...would that be mild enough or would I need to buy another brand? Thankssss :]]

do not use soap at all. if you must clean the shell, a soft toothbrush gently scrubbing the shell should be good. do not use chemicals (includign soap) on your turtle.

I just use a wash cloth and warm water. You can scratch the fragile growth area in between the scutes with a toothbrush.
