what kind of lights, how big is the tank, and do you have a filter? sounds good so far, though. live plants are a nice touch. i have heard horror stories about snail infestaions however... if you dont have a problem by now, you wont have one, thought. what kind are the plants? _________________ I love my turtles! |

i left out they are fish aqarium lights two of them. we have a variety of turtle food we feed her the long ones, pellets, krill and shrimp.
she does not eat the other stuff as well as the krill and shrimp.
i think we over fed her Sat she was sick but she cme out of it and we figured out plants are good and a heater so we added that stuff. |

This is a red ear slider? If so a snail infestation is hard to come by....they LOVE snails.
For Lights you need one that says uva/uvb on it. The turt needs the uv to absorb calcium.
Food- you can give them live plants, mixed dark leafy greens like collard, mustard, green leaf lettuce...just not iceberg. Also fruit {just a few bites a week as a treat} veggies the same as the fruit....try to get fresh as it has more vitamins and stuff still in it. And meat like chicken, beef, liver, seafood...just boil or bake it with no seasonings on it. _________________ 3 sulcata,11 red ears,1 yellow belly,1 melanistic slider,1 map,1 western painted,2 3 toe boxies,1 striped mud,2 japanese pond,2 common musk,1 russian,1 ornate wood,1 FL Cooter,7 annam pond,2 back wood,1 Malayan box,1 Red belly |

The lights are at most petstores or on-line and normal price is about $30 for them. I have found strip lights like in the hood of an aquarium one and also regular light bulb shapes ones.
Watch broccli and spinach as they bind to the calcium and can keep a turtle from getting that. Carrott is good just do shavings. Also for veggies I use corn, peas, green beans, pumpkin, squash. For fruit different berries, water melon, cantelope, banana, oranges, grapes. Just cut them into small small bite size pieces.
For greens just throw some in the tank..I have watched my babies flip backwards in the water ripping pieces off.
You can also {just to make sure they are getting the right stuff} throw a centrum vitamin in the tank...one for up to 40 gallons, once a week. And a bird cuttle bone...pure calcium ....a medium size chunk and they will bite that. Yes even a 1 inch hatchling is strong enough to bite the cuttle bone. _________________ 3 sulcata,11 red ears,1 yellow belly,1 melanistic slider,1 map,1 western painted,2 3 toe boxies,1 striped mud,2 japanese pond,2 common musk,1 russian,1 ornate wood,1 FL Cooter,7 annam pond,2 back wood,1 Malayan box,1 Red belly |
