Hi, well I bought my first 2 yellow bellied turtles at the weekend, thought the aquatics store was giving me great info on them! I see they were giving rather rubbish advice, after coming across this site today I see I also need a water heater and also a UV lamp, they told me to make sure the tank was in direct sight of natural light!
Well they have all been ordered now so should get them set up proper soon.
Just hope the water ain't to cold for them just now but they do seem to be swimming alot in it! |

Well update on the 2 of them, they seem to have come out their shell (couldn't think of any other way of putting it) the one that just hide all (buses)day loves swimming, never out the water, the other one (Snoop) just basks all day looking over buses.
I am just worried about how much they eat or how much they don't I should say, they are only babies so I guess they eat every other day or should they be eating everyday! |

if they are babies, they should be fed every day. eventually they will get big enough that you wont have to do this anymore and can start feeding them every other day, even further in the future and you may be feeding them every third day. _________________ I love my turtles! |

Congrats on your turts! Some turtles need a little adjustment time when you first get them home. Are they eating better now? _________________ shade & sweetwater! |

welcome to the board
yeah usually new turtles and especially babies need some time to adapt. Try tuna with them. They love it and couldn't resist the smell. As for the water temps, at least try to keep them stable until u get the heater (like stable during day and night don't let the temps drop too fast).
good luck with the little guys _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

They seem to be settling in fine now, thanks. wish I had found this sit before I go them, but it was a ' ah turtles, I'll get myself them instead of fish' moment.
But I'm reading up on them now and learning loads from all your tips in this site

That's the story in almost all new turtle owners! I know I did the same thing.... and of course the people selling them fail to explain all that the turts will need... I shudder to think of all the poor little turts that have to pay for lack of info with their lives. But extremely happy to hear that you're doing well with your baby!! _________________ shade & sweetwater! |
