if im not mistaken the male shakes at the female, not the other way around. and if they have mated then be careful because if the female lays eggs in the water the eggs will die...

Both male and female slider will do that. It can either be a mating dance or an aggresion thing. If one wants to mate then it'll do that and if one is MAD it'll do it...kinda a look at me thing getting the others attention. If the female is for sure a female and is doing it then watch for any other signals of trouble. If the other turtle backs down {swims away} you should be fine if not a fight could happen and the vet bills alone would be insane much less the poor hurt turtle.

Yeah they are kinda young to mate, but they may play at that. Most likely a I am in charge here thing. Watch for any further fighting if one doesn't back down. You may need to seperate them.

I have had earl and randy for about 2 and a half years ,, I have never seen them do any kind of mating dance, I am pretty sure earl is a girl, I got them at the same time and they were the same size, earl got bigger than randy, and has longer claws, so I figured he was a she, but no mating stiff has gone on, is that uncommon???? Surprised Question

You figured which one was a she? The one with the shorter claws right?

it is said to be a mating dance but not neccessarily one. Many young turtles (both males and females) do it for others from the same gender and even to objects like rocks and figures in their setups. I guess it's more like a "hey, what's up" Smile
