Hi, I'm kinda new here.
My boyfriend bought me a baby RES about 2 1/2 weeks ago, for my birthday. He's about an inch and a half big. But anyway..

He decided to buy it a cricket, but he doesn't seem to want to eat it. He attacked it a few times, but the thing jumped on his head, and he scurried off. He's tried to attack it a few more times, but always gives up. Is he scared? Did the cricket bite him or something? Can crickets attack him back? I'm kinda worried, because my turtle seems to want to eat the cricket, but also seems pretty scared by the thing. He's bigger than the cricket, but once again, my RES is still little, and the cricket is maybe a little more than half his size. He's been in there for about a day now, and still no luck.
Should I take the cricket out? Or will he come around eat it...?

OH, I also have to add, that this is his first cricket, but we did see him and a few of his brothers and sisters gang up and attack a pretty big tadpole at the pet store when we were buying him.

But he's only eaten pellets since I've had him. I've tried carrots once, but he wouldn't eat that, and also romaine lettuce, but still no luck. Is he just being picky? I thought crickets were a treat!

oh yeah. My boyfriend killed the cricket, and he went right after it, and ate the whole thing. I think maybe it was a little bit too big for him.
Thanks for your help though! Smile

Its funny watching the turtles shred the crickets in half, though. Atleast he got to enjoy the treat!
