Im a proud (but often befuddled) owner of a RES. Her name is Broccoli and my GF and I literally found her on our doorstep, upside down when she was small (about 4 or so inches across) a year and a half ago. she has grown to about 6 inches or so and am in the process of moving her to a larger tank ( 4 foot long X 14" wide and 21" tall) I have sectioned off the tank for water and land.

Problems: my house is older than dirt (built in '30s) and has poor insulation, ergo she is gettin sluggish and hangs at the bottom of the tank (hibernation behaviour?) I suspect because of the low temp of the house. her present tank is a fish tank set up with some additions for her (floating platform ect) and I hope to radically improve her living conditions with this new tank. if i keep her tank water warm (i havent a heater for her our last house was always warm so her ambient water temp was always warm) will she become more active?

welcome to the board Smile

yeah sounds like she's trying to hibernate. now talking about her age, it is suitable but no matter how low the temps are at ur house, it won't be low enough for hibernation. get a water heater to raise the temps and use a normal bulb for heating the tank (basking area). u'll need a small thermometer to keep track of the temps too.

good luck and keep us posted
