|
|
When i put my hand into my male RES's storage container trying to pat him, he will sniff my fingers, then swim away.
But sometimes, he will sniff n use his front legs n place on my hand and try to climb out of his storage container(treat my hand as a stepping stone).
What a strange behaviour. Like to sniff first b4 doing anything.
Does anyone know y he behave like this?
Does yr pet turtle behave like this? |

Turtles identify their food by smell. You probably don't smell like what yours eats.
I usually hand-feed my RES. If I have just washed my hands and they smell of soap, she won't take the food. She takes one sniff and pulls her head in. |

I was cleaning out my turtles today and I couldn't help but laugh out loud as they sat in the sink. One was just swimming about, probably a bit confused as to why he was in the chrome prison again. But the other one kept himself amused by dipping his head in water for a bit, heading up and keep trying to make bubbles to pass the time.
My turtles make snot bubbles... I feel kind of ashamed
Also, mine tend to freak out if anyone else but me tries to pick them up from their habitat - do you think smell has something to do with it? Have they recognised me as 'generic parental figure' already? _________________

Yup, talk about biting the hand that feeds you, literally!
My guys won't feed from my hand, not yet anyway.
