Being the snail nerd that I am...  You can feed your snail just about anything that will fall down to the bottom of the tank. Larger snails will develop the habit of crawling to the top of the water, and making a cup shape with their foot to catch floating items to eat.. Snails will also eat your algae. They will clean the tank for you, but they do not substitute for water changes.
