| Is it common as turtles bask and go through shedding for them to scratch at there face? I just lost one turtle to an RI but the Vet didn't say anything about scratching at the face to be a sympton of an RI. Any help would be appreciated. |

One of mine keeps scratching and figiting !! I don't understand it. He does it when he's basking. Also, what's an RI? _________________ Claire, owner of 2 Male Red-Eared Sliders:

RI is short for Respiratory Infection, pneumonia. it is a common fatal disease that infects turtles and especially hatchlings.
signs of RI include: a softer than usual shell, white "pimples" on the skin, swollen eyes, swimming lopsided, inability to submerge, over-basking, gasping for air, bubbles coming out from nose, loss of appetite,...
one of the main causes for RI is too cold temps. like temps in the 60's F, they're too cold for the turtle to handle yet too warm for them to hibernate in _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo
