My turtle is getting really big... I'm planning on getting a bigger tank at a fleamarket or yardsale or something in the near future (very near, cause soon my turt won't fit in her 10 gallon tank! hehe).
I know, it's supposed to be 10 gallons per every inch but I just can't afford a huge tank like that (I'm a broke 16 year old with no job lol). I saw at the pet store yesterday that a 20 gallon tank costs like $250... on sale!
Anyway, point is soon she's going outside in a nice little 'rubbermaid'/pond area if we don't get a bigger tank soon.
Is there any way to make this transition easier on her? She doesn't even like being picked up... |

well, anyway, can't afford $125 either...
I'm going to the fleamarket on sunday and hope to pick up a big one for $20... or less (don't worry, I will clean it well!) _________________ I love my turtle....

You could always get a Rubbermaid, they make good homes too. I bought my tortoise a 50 gallon one for only $15! _________________ -= Shannon =- |

That's what I was thinking... I was checking them out at Kmart the other day hehe
My mom has a big black plastic box outside but I'm convinced it won't be tall enough and she's convinced it will be...
It's only about 1 1/2 feet tall... maybe 2 feet... and I know my turtle will escape.
See, if I put about a foot of water in, and then I put in something for her to bask on, she will be able to get out... especially since it has handles/holes poked in on the sides and I think it may even have grove marks on the inside... I know she will be able to get right out so I'm not going to put her in that.
I also need to figure out something for a screen... meh, why did my neighbors get a cat and then decide to make it a cat that goes to the bathroom outside? That little fence we have up seperating our yards is not going to stop a kitty from getting my poor innocent turt! _________________ I love my turtle....

rubbermaids are good temp homes. i've been using them since i got my babies but the "temp" lasted a bit longer than expected anyways yes they could escape (my girl did once) but u can solve it easily. i moved the basking block to the middle and now it's like an island..water is deep enough and basking area is ok and most important, she can't get out _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

hmm, not to sure she will have enough room to swim with one in the middle.
I still want to go to Kmart and buy a 60 gallon tub... that would suit my turtle much better and I wouldn't have to worry near as much.
I was supposed to go to the fleamarket today, but my mom didn't let me... I also wanna get some chicken wire for overtop of the rubbermaid...
what do you use for your basking area? I was thinking bricks but I would have to glue them together first, and I don't have any waterproof glue (looked for some before but couldn't find any)... then I was thinking the ramp she has in her tank now would work but I would have to suction cup it onto the side... then it wouldn't be in the middle... but that would allow her enough room to swim... or more than bricks would, anyway.
what should the temps be before I let her outside for daytime?
it's only like 60 something now, so I think that would be a little to chilly.
she's a big turt, not a baby _________________ I love my turtle....

mine get enough space to swim around cz their setup is more like a square..hmm u could use something like a bridge for that. enough room for basking up, enough room for swimming under look around and u can find many stuff. i never bought anything for them from petshops. i find many cool stuff in gardening sections and even in toy shops. _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

| well u could take the rubbermaid and stick it in the ground if u wanted to. like let it live out there in te summer day and night u could get a really big rubbermaid and dig a hole in the ground and just let it crawl onto the ground and put the chicken wire a little deep so it cant dig out when it rains. just an idea. that would take away the land part away. and if its a female i guess they can get preganant even without another turtle or somethin u could dig out a part on land kind of deep and put loose sand in it. |

hmm... I have an idea... I could get two pieces of wood and screw them onto another piece of wood (or a couple so it has some weight to it) like legs...
would my turt get splinters then though?
this is going to take a lot of thought, I have a feeling...
and I didn't know females could get pregnant without the males? _________________ I love my turtle....

Just like chickens, turtles can lay unfertile eggs. They are not pregnant and the eggs won't hatch out. _________________

How would know I if my turtle becomes pregnant? Zorra's tank is just water and a ramp. _________________ Joshua. I love God's Creations |

Bricks might scratch the turtle's shell, and the wood might grow mold. You can buy different types of plastic turtle ramps like this that may work. _________________ -= Shannon =- |
