|
|
Am I the only one who has a problem getting the Fluval primed before turning it on? Is there a trick to it that I don't know... it took me forever to put it together and then it took me even longer to get some water siphoning into it so I could turn it on! I am so happy that it works so well, but will I have this problem again when I have to clean the tank?.. which won't be for quite awhile right? _________________ shade & sweetwater! |

I got one for my husband's tank in Jan. Same problems, but it was actually worse re-priming it when we cleaned our tank. Perhaps there's a
trick you need to know. I was thinking of raising the filter above the level of the tank next time, which won't be right away!! |

Make sure there is a lot of water in the filter already. I just had to move and had to clean out my filter. It is a pain to re-prime. Just keep priming and it should get all of the air out of the filter. I even had to restart mine a couple of times. If that doesn't help I would call Fluval Customer service to see if they could help _________________ Where Ever You Go There You Are.

Thanks so much for the tip!! Hopefully I won't have to clean it for awhile. I plan on doing water changes, but how far in between do you think I can wait to actually clean out the filter? I know it's when the water doesn't seem to stay clean, but about how long do you think that is? I only have one female in the tank and the tank is a 55 gallon one. Thanks for all your help!! _________________ shade & sweetwater! |

You should be getting at least 2-3 months in between filter cleanings. You will have to add fresh water about 1-2 times a week, but that's nothing. _________________ Where Ever You Go There You Are.

I know I'm replying to this a little late, but I was wondering why everyone is getting a Fluval? I've heard so many complaints about them being such a hassle to prime, and yet so many people on here talk about getting one?? All my friends warned me that that is the LAST filter they would get and yet someone must have reccomended on here because everyone seems to have/want one...
If anyone wants to spend some good money on a high-quality canister filter, the one to get is the Rena Filstar xP3. I use if for my 75 gal, but It's made to filter up to 175 gallons! The great thing about it is it's easy to use, has alot of room for extra biological filtration, and it's SELF PRIMING! |

I love my Fluval, now that I'm more familiar with it. I put it together after my son had gone to bed, so my brainpower was already drained, once I figured out what I was doing, things went a lot smoother. There's plenty of baskets for extra media and it's a 404 so it's more than enough for my tank. _________________ shade & sweetwater! |

I think they just re-released the Fluval seriers. They now have the 405 and from what I have seen it runs less gph, and is more expensive. But it's designed the same way (Except it is black)
http://www.hagen.com/pdf/aquatic/Fluval_series5_manual.pdf
I like the one I have, but I'm not impressed with the new one.
225 gph - 405 (Boooo!!!!)
340 gph - 404 & Rena Filstar xP3
They have found a way to give you less for more. The common trend with almost anything in this world. _________________ Where Ever You Go There You Are.

I basically wrote them a proffessional e-mail, advising them that there descision to make a lesser product at the same or more price was unaccetable. Let's face it here people, I am the Fluval 404 Cheerleader on this forum, and it makes me mad that, that is where the product line is headed. I still love my filter and glad I did not wait. Funny things is that if you look, the 404 & 405 both use the same media, so it's good we are not forced to upgade. I have a 27 gallon hexagon tank in storage and when I move, I will be getting a new filter, and I told them that I will be looking toward other products because of their descision .
Alright, I'm going to go wash my car. Later..... _________________ Where Ever You Go There You Are.

ah yes...it's become a sad sad world
oh and i'm not sure if this is much of a difference but
Fluval 404 = 340gph
Rena filstar xP3 = 350gph
but theres also this:
Fluval 404 = designed for up to 100 gal,
Rena filstar xP3 = designed for up to 175 gal
oh and this:
Fluval 404 =media capacity 6.4 liters
Rena filstar xP3 =media capacity= 9.1 liters <~nice! |

I have to actually retract my statment. Especially cause I just got email back from Hagen (Fluval)....
http://www.hagen.com/pdf/aquatic/Fluval_series5_manual.pdf
On page 16 of the '05 manual I was not looking in the right place. I was looking under Filter circulation NOT Pump Output.
DoH !!
I feel like an idiot. I'm going to go clean my glasses. _________________ Where Ever You Go There You Are.
