hello,

i wanted to say hello to everyone, i just joined. my boyfriend and i adopted a red ear slider from the shelter, he is so neat!! my question is his skin seems to be shedding alot will that clear up and why did that happen? we just got him yesterday, the people at the shelter did not seem to know really anything about turtles. i checked in on him earlier and the shedding seems like it is almost gone

Welcome to the Cult of Turtles !!!!

The shedding is normal and will come and go, so don't worry.

Got any Pics ?

How big is he ?

This is "Stupid" A 3 Year Old Male RES.

It's more like an "Ear" then on the head. But they can go as far to the top side of the head.

welcome to the board Smile one thing to add, shedding is a sign of growing and everytime ur turtle sheds skin or scutes (from the shell), it means everything is ok and it's growing bigger Smile and yeah RES's do have red ears but as they grow older, the color kind of fades and when they reach their complete growth, u could never tell it was a slider cz it'll have a brownish/dark olive color everywhere and there is no way for the red ears to show.

anyways good luck with ur guy. u should be able to tell by now his gender and give him a name if u didn't do it yet Smile

Welcome to the board Very Happy

I have heard of people asking about a mark on the top of the head, I never did check my turtles for it though. Confused
