Hi.. i have a couple of questions about my RES.
what should the temperature of the water be? i don't have a heater, it doesn't get too cold here but i don't know i feel they might still be cold.
Also their shell gets slimey sometimes so i wash it. Am i supposed to wash it?
Where do they prefer to be in or outside the water because i take them out alot and let them walk around the house to exercise.
Thank you |

I know you said your from Egypt. Thats awsome, I've always wanted to go there. Anyways. I doubt it gets cold there, but could you explain what kind of set up you have. How often you change the water. How old your RES is ? And what is the average temp that the turtle lives. That would help us alot.

egypt is boiling in summer but gets colder than other surrounding areas in winter (that's a reason i didn't need a heater too). anyways i don't wanna sound contradicting to everyone here, on other sites, and on the whole web cz the temps say they should be high 70's to low 80's F for water and higher for basking. well i asked the vet about that a while ago and he said ok where did u get that info from? the web and he said most people u're getting that info from and from the US, europe..right? so these apply best to them but ur turtles (mine) come from somewhere else and are accustomed to our weather so they can handle some temp changes differently. that's why when it drops a bit below 70's it'll still be ok for them.
for the shell, u can brush it gently with a soft toothbrush under warm water. don't scrub too hard..
RES need water and land equally so if u take them for walks it'll be ok as long as they're not too long cz u know in water they drink, eat, and extract wastes. so how long do these walks take?
sorry for the long post.. _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo
