I have been told sexing a young RES is near impossible...I was just wondering if there any signs to lean towards one sex or the other at such a small size and young age....

I got my RES a couple days ago and have looked all over the internet for good, color, pics of the tail, etc of male and female RESs to compare but only get diagrams, other species of turtles, or descriptions...
Does anyone here have good pics that I could maybe compare my baby with?? thanks...

they don't put pix of baby-sexing that's why it'll be hard to tell. anyways look close and u might see something. i was told that one of mine is a female and the other is a male by the shop keeper and although he doesn't have any clue about turtles he said it's something he feels in their under-shell like a bump or something Question anyways i was told that it's not true and there's nothing as such but as they are getting older, the descriptions are applying and i', 90% positive that the girl is a girl and the little guy is a guy Smile

I know I see the little slit...(I dont remember the spelling of the proper word..lol) but I'm guessing since he's still so small, etc. I can't really say how thick/thin it's tail is or how far down the tail it is, etc....

Guess I'll just have to wait... Confused

I think that only goes for Land turtles.

How old are we talking about cause Mine didn't start showing till about a year at least.

I think the best thing you can look for is the length of the tail and/or nails.

Long=Male.

If there under a year, I think you'd be waisting your time Smile

Hey, when I was trying to get Kalas up and active after heating the water last night I was holding him and it seems to be me that his shell underneath does seem to curve inwards a bit towards his tail...
Could this be an early sign he could be male??

I was also thinking his tail seems very long...especially when I saw a pic of a grown RES female and it seems unless part of the tail fell off his will be longer than that when he grows bigger...
Could I be right thinking it's male??

His claws look the same length to me..but tis harder to tell as he pulls his legs in..lol...

I think your going crazy asking an unanswerable question. Just wait your patience will be rewarded.

It's not gonna happen till he get's a little older ......
