do i need to put anything in the water other than food for my alligator snappers to keep them healthy? |

for the first question, sorry i have no answer since i don't use UV bulbs (natural sunlight for my babies).
for food additions, u can get that turtle-shaped calcium block. i guess the intention of making it was for something in water but it's good if turtles eat it too. another thing u can give them is cuttlebone (yes the one used for birds). u can find it in the birds section at any petshop. remove the outer layer and cut it into small pieces they can eat (make sure they don't choke on them).

I'll take the infra red question
No, they are not the same thing, infra red is heat, usually either red or no light at all. I believe when they say infra red, they mean "rays", they make ceramic heaters that use infra red heat, and since they are not a light bulb, you can leave it on without worrying about it keeping you awake at night.  _________________
