I am new to this site, and also a fairly new RES owner. We have 2 baby RES that we got the end of Sept. I have moved our tank and now I have noticed that we have a bunch of algae growing in the tank and on the turtles. is there something we can do to cut down on the algae growth? I am not sure if we are having this problem due to moving the tank or us not cleaning the tank as much since we got new filters. Will the algee hurt the turtles?

actually algae is a sign of good environment in ur setup so it's not bad as much as it is annoying. did u move it anywhere close to a window? cz sun helps a lot in the growth of algae. u can get algae eater fish or use a conditioner. try re-placing the tank first and if u still have the problem get the fish. keep conditioners the last solution.

Thanks. It is not near a window. I thought that maybe it was because it was not getting much sunlight. I have it next to my entertainment stand and I thought that it was not getting much sun. due to be shaded by the entertainment stand. I do have water conditioner for it. I noticed that the algae is growning in the area where the basking light shines down. We will try the algae eater.

and for the turtles' shells, i didn't notice that when i read ur post b4 so u can use a soft toothbrush and rub their shells gently under warm running water to get rid of the algae on them.
