I think one of my boys swallowed one piece of gravel. He didn't want to eat anything today and he is walking up and down all day long. No other signs. He is one and a half years old and he used to eat lots.
What can I do?

first remove all the stones in the tank. second, keep watching for him if he's extracting wastes. if he doesn't, u should take him to the vet to help him do it cz it's serious. till that time, u can help him by wiping his cloaca (thing) with warm water by a clean cloth.

good luck and keep us posted

He is ok but thanks for existing, guys . Without you we would really become desperate in many situations.
Mine is just spoiled and suddenly has a personality crisis and doesnt want pallets anymore but chicken and lettuce only. So it was no stone indigestion.
Actually he was very nervous and swimes around lots. He is still basking, fighting for the girl, hanging with the others ,normal stuff but he changed in a way.
When they start to mate, after 5-the year? Is it possible that mine are a bit early? Both males, over one year and half old,are humping on the girl. They dont bite her but they ride on her tail anytime . What is this? They all wave their claws, even the 6 mths old one meaning that this is not only a mate dance but a way to communicate when they are nervous or want attention.

glad to hear he's been better. what are their sizes?? this sounds like mating but i doubt they could do it b4 reaching 4-5 yrs of age. since he's eating tuna, soak the pellets in tuna water maybe it'll do the trick of getting him back to eat them so he doesn't get overweight.

good luck and keep us posted Smile

Also alot of people use small rocks because it's right there in the pet store for the fish. If your not already, make sure you using big rocks as substrate. I have those big river bed rocks. This way it's just one less thing to worry about.

Here is the best pic I could find that shows the rocks.

That's Mordecai Jones (Eastern Peninsula Slider). He's the biggest and youngest one. He's also very fast. He can do 200 push-ups. It's amazing.

Or, you can do as I did, print out pictures of rocks on a whole sheet and tape them to the bottom of the tank, this is what it looks like from the top of the tank:

This is what it looks like from the side:

Hi stray
I saw your piture of the printed rocks...I thought the turtles always needed some kinda rock to climb out on...am I wrong or is it not visible in your picture. I like the clean look without rocks. Also if I can feel up my tank with water, at what size or age can I do this with my two RES. They fit in the palm of my hand still. Also if I have a water heater and a UVB light is that enough for my turtles? Does the heater only heat so high or do you have to take it in and out?? Sorry so many questions. I have only had mine about 2 mths.

The basking area is that brown area on the top of both of the pictures, here is a somewhat better picture:

I had my turtles in a full tank of water since they were about the size of a half dollar (50 cent piece), you can gradually add water so that the turtle(s) can get used to the water depth.

You also need a basking area and a basking light (or ceramic heater).

Most heaters have a thermostat on the top of them to regulate the water temp. You don't have to take the water heater out unless it is not being used, like in my case, the temp. usually stays around 78-80 deg. so I don't need the heater.

Don't worry about asking questions, how else are we going to learn. Very Happy
