Hi,
New here. My kids have 2 red ear slider turtles and
we seem to have to clean the tank a lot. I even bought
two filters, worked for a bit, but then it seem just as good with one.
How often should we have to clean the tank? Also how often should we feed them?

Hi CJ...Welcome
I'm not a turtle expert. Now that's out of the way, let me give a little bit of advice from the little I know.
You should clean the water as often as it's needed, and with the filter's help it will probably be four days before you have to clean the tank.
Two filters might be just as one depending on the size of the one filter that you will use or how efficient it is.
The rest of the gang can give better insight.
Good Luck with you babies. Laughing

Ivana,
4 days! I was hoping 4 months! lol, just kidding but I was thinking at least 4 weeks. It's a big turtle tank with filter. I think it will take 2 hours to clean. But there so darn cute, I guess there worth it. Smile
Thank you

I guess if it's that big and you think it's safe, then yeah they probably can go for months. My little one eats a lot so he soils himself a lot too Laughing
My cleanings are very often. Laughing

welcome to the board Smile maybe the filters u got are not strong enough cz most of them come for fish tanks and fish are not as messy as turtles so u need a filter that is at least 4x the tank size for ur turtles.

for feeding, u can tell how much they need by estimating. what are their sizes?

I have a 60 gallon tank and a high end canister filter, and I still drain and clean my tank at least every other weekend, if not every weekend. I've got it down to about an hour cleaining time though. lol- Laughing such a mess for such little creatures.

Hello. I am having the same issue. I bought a Magnum 350 filter but the water is so dirty in 3 days that you can not even see the red ear slider turtle. Why?

I did find a possible answer here: http://www.turtlepuddle.org/health/small_tank_filter.html

It is worth a try.

Wow, some of you guys clean your tanks A LOT......I just have one little turtle and I clean the tank every few months. When the water starts to get scuzzy I clean it. I think my fish help to eat up a lot of the icky stuff.

that's strange darylrusso. i don't have a filter and yet if i didn't clean the tank for 3-4 days it doesn't get that dirty except for some cloudiness and the dirt at the bottom bcz they rip off their poop Rolling Eyes it must be something clogging ur filter
