Hi guys
I just adopted a new baby RES. His name is Oliver GQ-->because his shell is so pretty and olive color. Very Happy
He's not that very active yet because it's a new environment. I put him in the same tank as my much older RES Dyrtle but I'm worried that she might get territorial and squish him. Please tell me what to do?
Question Question
I tried to feed it regular turtle food this morning because I didn't get it any baby food yet, Am I a bad mother or what? Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

I wouldn't put a baby turtle with a bigger turtle, he might get squashed by the bigger turtle, even though he may not do it on purpose, it is not a good idea to mix big turtles with little ones, there are some cases where the bigger one will bite a leg or even the head off of the smaller one, you should separate them as soon as you can, just to be on the safe side.Very Happy

-just an idea. When I got my hatchling that I put with two older sliders I placed a rubbermaid contain with holes in it (kind of like a strainer) in the tank and suspended it (make sure it's VERY secure and high enough that the other turtles won't climb in) so that the water was shallow enough for the baby and I still got the benfits of the lighting and filter and didn't have to buy a whole new set-up. You have to have a good sized tank to do this though, but it's a thought. Razz

thanx for all the advice guys.
I took him out of the tank and he's okay. the rubbermaid thing is a good idea. but where would I find something like that. Question
When It comes to the food, I fed him some fish food but he's not eating at all, but I guess that's to be expected. Sad
I'm keeping on eye on him though. Is there anything else that you guys can suggest to get him to eat. Question

I found my rubbermaid container at target, but any store like Wall Mart, K Mart, etc. would have it. If you can't find a suitable size just get a regular of container and drill holes and use a fine sand paper to make sure there are no sharp edges.

I hope everything goes well for you and you little guy. Razz

Tanx contact but yesterday when I got home my little guy yell at me from taking him out of the tank. Laughing
When I got home, I thought the little guy was dead because he was not moving even after I picked him up. I had to put him in the other tank while I set his up. A few minutes after I put him in there, he was running the show. He was already basking, found his way around, found a good hiding place, ordering my bigger turtle "Dyrtle" around. Although he's still not eating, at least he's active. I think I'll leave him in there and really really watch him but I think it will be a waste of time because he already owns the tank.
If you guys think I should take him out of there still please let me know.

i suppose it'll be better if u put them together only under ur supervision. after u make sure things will be fine, u can continue what u're doing

As long as you can see for yourself that he is fine and won't get hurt, you can leave him in the tank, but keep an eagle eye on them, at the first signs of aggression, I would move him out of there. Very Happy Good luck. Very Happy Very Happy

Tanx guys. I definetely will keep them under a microscope. I think the aggression will come from the baby "Oliver" more than the bigger one. Laughing
He's claiming his space already. Very Happy
