So here is what is going on I have what I think is a male and a femal, but they are only about five or six months old (I think -got them as hatchlings from a pet store) so from reading on this forum about breeding and mating behavior I see mine doing some of these things. I see the male trying to position the female so that they are nose to nose and putting his little claws up and so on. Are they courting or are they just practicing? I don't want any babies right now, and the female is to young to be having eggs. (I think) They have also been acting more aggressive with each other lately. Are they just sick of each other? They are in a 60 gall tank female is about 4-5 inches the male is around 3-4 inches. What would you suggest I do? Do they need to be seperated? The female is the one that seems to be getting more aggressive? Do I possibly have 2 males??

Help!?!

that turtle dance is said to be a mating ritual. ur turtles are still too young to mate cz it takes them 5 years for the female and 3 for the male to be sexually mature. that aggressiveness might be the cause of many things like space issues, mating, or even being bored. just today i was reading an article about how the aggressive behavior in captive turtles could be bcz they don't get the chance to do activities they usually do in the wild like hunting for food and fishing. give them something to play with so they don't play using each other. if they become so uncontrollable, it might be time u'll have to seperate them. i hope it doesn't get to that level Smile

so besides giving them fish to play with what would you suggest? It's not good to give them fish too often is it? They eat ANYTHING I put in the tank immediately, poor little fish don't stand a chance. Laughing

Laughing I never thought of turtles as needing toys, but I don't see why not. I'll have to try the ping pong ball, I alread have some rubber duckies that are not in use.

Thanks for the ideas.
