|
|
Hi, I have a couple of question, Please help me....
My RES just lost her tank partner, a painted turtle (moved away), I need to know if I need to worry about her getting too lonely that it will affect her health. She eats fine now.
I noticed that her shell has an ashy white color to it, I bought her a cream and apply it as much as I can hoping to get rid of it, but it seems that it's not going away. Everytime I apply the cream, she gets irritated, and tries to snap my finger. Should I continue because it's good for her health or should I stop and do something else to help the ashy color?
He shell is not soft or cracked.
Please help me, I'm desperate............................. |

I think that the perception of loneliness is usually put there by us humans, I am sure they miss each other after being together for a long time, but turtles are naturally loners to begin with, so I wouldn't base getting a new turtle on that, odds are, if you get a new turtle and they don't get along, you will end up having to separate them and it will be twice the work.
I can't say without looking at the shell, but it may be shedding, although it does sound like it might not be, but I would be careful with that cream, even if it is made for turtles, it can plug up the pores on the shell and cause worse problems than you already have, if you are uncertain about what that ashy stuff is, you should consult a reptile vet about it. Good luck. _________________

hmm i agree with what stray said but still u can keep her entertained by playing with her, handling her, putting her in the bathtub for a good swim or on the floor for exercise, talking to her, maybe some rocks that she can move around too (they like to decorate their tanks)
for the cream, it's not good to apply it that much. i guess she's got some shell rot or mineral deposits. can u post any pix? _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

Hey guys,
I finally found a vet that actually takes care of turtles in my home town, I only spent about two weeks looking for one and getting the run-around. I decided to go because my "Dyrtle" is not as active anymore and she is basking a loooooooooot more than before so I'm going to see the vet next week. I'll probably post both the old and new pics and whatever the vet tells me so no one else have to go through that. _________________ I loss my bestfriend "Dyrtle", now I only have Oliver to comfort me |

The temp is normal, She still eats but she's getting lazier by the minute. She even lets me carry her without a fight, and beleive me she's a fighter.
I just think that the vet appointment is too far away. _________________ I loss my bestfriend "Dyrtle", now I only have Oliver to comfort me |

Unfortunately Msjava, I lost my turtle before the vet visit. I posted it under "Loss of a friend". She suffered before she died and it was killing me.
I lost my baby. _________________ I loss my bestfriend "Dyrtle", now I only have Oliver to comfort me |

I am so sorry! I guess it was insensitive of me to ask, I didnt notice your sinature until after I posted. I am already in love with my little guy, I never want him to get sick! Thank you so much for replying to me, I've posted several times with questions/concerns..noone has responded. One of my biggest concerns was he didnt appear to be eating....but I am very happy to report that I tried *human* tuna...and he immediatly started eating..I was clapping my hands!! lol. soaking some pellets in the tuna water too..so he'll eat those better. sorry for the long post, someone fin ally responded to me and I wanted to share my good news |

Good Luck with your little guy. I'm glad he's eating. My little scared the bejesus out of me when he refused to eat right after my baby-girl died.
Take good care of him.
Don't worry about posting a long message, this is the only place we can really talk about our little ones without having any1 looking at us like weirdos. Beleive me I get call that at work everytime I get on this site. I could care less because I'm not being judge by anyone on the site or by my babies. _________________ I loss my bestfriend "Dyrtle", now I only have Oliver to comfort me |
