OK my ig turtle is about almost 2 years old and has had a turlte with it for most it's life and it was alone for a little over a month or so and i got a baby turlte the big one is a red ear slider and the little one is a map back turtle and they have been together a little over a week and 2 days ago i just bought a 20 gallon tank made only for turtles and its really long so i hope theu have enough room to get out eachothers way if they get mad it came with a ramp so also he acted like he was going to bite it;s head it will sniff him but not as much but he acted like he was going to bite it's head so i was wondering is he just trying to show whos boss? or will he hert him or would he have already because htey been together for almost 2 weeks maybe longer.

My other question is how do i clean my turlte because of his shell and skin are pealing and his shell is what im woried about because in the cracks of the shell it's starting to peel of like little stripes of it. is that normal for shedding?

The little one always climbs on top of the big one and hets air and stays there for a while so the big one doesnt really care most of the time.

ur turtle is acting aggressive bcz of the change. a little experiment u can do here: if u still have the old setup, put him back in and keep the little guy in the new one. after a couple of days, put the big turtle back in their new setup. hopefully, when he sees the little guy there first he wouldn't try to over-rule. if aggressiveness still occurs, seperation will be required. u don't want ur little guy to lose one of its limbs.

shedding skin and/or scutes is a normal thing and u shouldn't interfere in that unless the scutes (shedding shell) have been hanging for a long time and can't just drop-off by themselves. a way to clean the shell is using a soft toothbrush by rubbing it very gently on the shell under running warm water. i don't suggest doing that now though cz u might peel off the scutes that are not ready to fall yet.

good luck

thank you for the info:)but there always next to eachother and they sit next to eachother he climbs on him and every onece in a while he will shake his arm a little bit and snifs him out but he doesnt realy try to bite him he just acts like it he doesnt ge close to it's head just like 2-4 inches back. so they been together for a while now so i dont know if he wouldove already urt him cause they got eough room to swim around. i got some pics i have 2 down load them so brb.

2 months could never be around 4 inches. or maybe i'm a bit lost in here..anyways, he won't die from cutting down the quantity. they could hold for more than a week without food at all. 20 is too much so cut it down and depend more on veggies. try carrots they like them

I have a ? my big turtle Bonnie(i hope its a girl but everything points 2 her being a boy)Is very active and swims alot is not afraid of us and will swim by the glass when we walk by. The smaller 1 Cylde(we hopes) doesn't he spends alot of time on the bottom of the tank I c him sometimes at the surface. Is this O.K.? Also they dont get out of the water much the just hold on 2 the dock with their heads out The water temp is about 80. Does it need 2 b turned down They dont have a basking lamp Yet. Bonnie sometimes basks with her head up and legs out but i havent seen cylde do that yet Is he shy or sick? He is eating good when Bonnie leaves some Do I need 2 fed them seperate? anything will help love this site :
Thanks alot

first of all, don't depend on the left overs for his food. if he can't catch up then seperate them when it's feeding time. it doesn't matter where he swims as long as everything is normal and he's not over-basking. now for not using the dock it can be either that they're still shy, they can't get on it easily, or they find it warmer in water. the temp is fine Smile

aww thanx a lot Embarassed that was a push for me Very Happy

i hope they're doing better now, sounds like they're happy turtles Smile well unfortunately, anything that has a mouth can bite and since u hand-feed them maybe they link any fingers to food that's why they tried to bite ur daughter. if she's too young, watch out for her. but if she's a bit old let her hold them if she wants to play with them rather than sticking her fingers inside. i bet they meant no harm in that Smile and don't forget, washing..washing..washing..washing

talk to them, they do listen. and sieze the chance for that cz later after they get used to u they won't. they'll only do what they like Laughing

good luck and that again Smile

Dixieee, you could never be useless, I can attest to that, you are one of the first to answer a post from someone who needs help, alot of the times I am busy (or at least I should be), but I try to be here when I can, usually around lunch time, and an hour before I get to work, I am glad you are here to help people and I wouldn't have it any other way

my daughter is 18 and she tries to hold them she is scaredbut she is learning i sat up 4 about a hour last nite in the dark watching them it was awesome. I put some krill on their dock and thet would try 2 climb up from all side finally Bonnie got the idea she was going up the ramp Cylde never got it. I was wandering if it would b ok 2 try 2 feed them other thing like earthworm chopped or some nature stuff. Im feeding them seperate now so Cylde has a chance 2 catch up. I have 2 say I never thought that watching turtles could b so much fun. Very Happy Very Happy i didnt realize Bonnie was so RUDE Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad when it came 2 food but she can eat 5 or 6 sticks 2 Cyldes 1or2. I'm feeding him a little more than her now so I'm hoping that he will catch up. Question Question Well the coffee is ready and my babies(all of them r hungry)so i'll go thanks alotdixiee Cool Cool Cool UR the best Laughing Laughing Laughing

thanx stray, but we got back to the main point..i spend so much time here cz i have nothing to do in real life. if i'm not hanging out then i'm at home on the net (never really study Embarassed )

18 hmm maybe they were flirting around with her Laughing i got bitten a lot and developed immunity to that so u can get urself used to the biting if u want Wink ur turtles act a lot like mine, one is the leader and the other is a stupid non-growing one (how proud Rolling Eyes )

ok so now everything sounds right, just make sure u don't over-feed them Smile

I try to feed my turtles in the morning, they are almost 5 inches so I feed them enough to fill them but not to stuff them, and even though they beg in the afternoon, I try not to give in. Very Happy

well my babies r good i was also wandering about what other types of food to feed them so that we can get a wider variety of things for them to eat I dont want them 2 get use 2 reptomin and not eat any thing else. I was told maybe some mealworms or earthworms as long as they r chopped fine. When I feed them this do i just put it in the tank and they will eat it, I also bought a plant for the tank as soon as I put it in the tank within 30 min. the plant had no leaves on it Embarassed I hope this doesnt hurt them Question Question Anything will be helpful. Also someone sent me a msg that i couldnt answer she was a guest. She asked if her turtles were suppose 2 lose their shells> I told her that I thought so but for her 2 ask dixieee Cool Cool Cool czs she usely responded fast Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy thanks

am flattered Cool Embarassed Laughing for ur Q's, yeah there are many things u can feed them BESIDES their pellets. worms yes, fruits like apples grapes and strawberries, veggies like romaine lettuce or any green leaves (no iceberg lettuce or spinach), chicken, fish, turkey (all boiled or cooked well), hmm what else..oh they LOVE tuna too. about the plant u got, just make sure it has nothing that could harm or scratch them.

for the guest's question, her turtles are probably shedding scutes as a sign of growing
