Hi Everyone,

I just purchased my RES baby yesterday and I'm soooo excited! Today we went out and purchased a 20 gallon tank with all the fixin's (basking lamp, floating area, plants, filter, thermometer, coral fixture for hiding and climbing). Squirt seems to love his new home. It took him a few hours, but when we came home from dinner tonight he finally figured out how to climb up onto his basking area. We were so proud of him. I've wanted a turtle since I was a little girl, and I find it absolutely amazing to be so enamored with watching him swim around his tank.

I've been reading this board off and on today and yesterday and I do have one question. I noticed that some of you feed your turtles separately from their tanks. Is this what I should be doing, or is it ok to just drop the pellets in the water? (I've been watching Squirt eat his pellets, or if he doesn't and they get too soggy I've been removing them from the tank or his container that he was in yesterday). Also (ok, I know I said I only had one question....) I noticed that Squirt was having trouble swimming against the current from his filter when it was set on high, so we set it to low...is this ok for a little while until he learns how to swim a bit better?

Any help you guys can offer will be great. I've enjoyed reading your posts so far...this really seems like a nice board. I look forward to spending some time here. Smile

The reason some of us feed the turtles in a separate container is to keep the tank cleaner, turtles are very messy eaters.

My turtles actually like swimming against the current, I have a water fountain pump in the tank for circulation, it helps the filter do its job better, I have seen both my turtles and my fish swimming against the current, they seem to enjoy it, ofcourse, my turtles are about 4 inches now so they are stronger than when they were still little. Very Happy
