I need help with clearing the water. 75-gal tank with about 45-gal of (bottled) water. Using Fluval 4 Plus submersible pump with special carbon filter pads in between 2 foam pads. I do not change filters when doing a full tank water change. Levels (pH, alkalinity, etc) are within range, including ammonia. I've done partial water changes & nothing is helping. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Hercules would appreciate it too. Cool

Exclamation when Hercules was itty-bitty, we put snails in the tank, but they died. I think he ate some of them. The others may have died from shock...who knows. Just kidding! It was suggested that I put the gravel back into the tank. I took it out because it was such a mess. Any opinions on this one?

the cloudy water could be a result of bleaching rocks and not rinsing them off well enough it happended to me.

The water has been cloudy for a couple of weeks now. I've done partial water changes & that hasn't helped. I don't want to empty all 45-gal of water, but if I need to then I will. I rinsed off debris from the filters to see if that would help, but it's the same. I've checked the levels too & everthing seems to be in check. I'm getting frustrated & I'm worred Hercules might be upset with me. Sad

Ok I have had the fluval 4 sub filter for almost 3 years. The only time I had a problem was when I broke the fan magnetic thing and that was only 10 bucks. I don't recomend waisting money on the carbon. Your not really trying to keep the water for fish, it's for turtles. Your main concern is keeping the water clean. It sucks, but I have always cleaned the filter on every water change. Before I upgraded I had to change the water at least every 3 weeks 4 if I was lucky. Foam pads usually lasted about a month. It's a very good filter and I'm still going to keep it and use it for possibly other tank. A used toothbrush or new one preferbly is your best friend.

Hi, Are you still having trouble with cloudy water?
It can be from a few different things...What and how much are you feeding? How offen do you rinse your filters? What type of lighting and how long do you leave it on? these things all can creat cloudy water. You can have the best filter in the world mega power, but if you don't rinse your filter pads/pre filters, you are just blowing that junk right back in your tank. I rinse mine at least once a week if not more depending on what tank, baby tank a few times a week.
