|
|
I have owned my two Reeves turtles for over a year now. I have one large one (which I am assuming is older) and one small one, though the differences in there size is not that much. For a couple of months now the little one has been picking on and biting at the bigger one. He wont let the bigger one get in the water anymore and when he does he quickly retreats to land. This is making it hard for me to feed my turtles and I feel the bigger turtle's health is now lacking. How do I get the other turtle to calm down and stop attacking the other turtle? Any advice would be greatly welcomed! Thank you!

welcome to the board
is there any chance that the smaller one is trying to mate with the other? since it is smaller it might be the male and the other is a female..did u notice any hand-waving movements in front of the other's face from the smaller guy? _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

I think they are both female beacuse last year 2 different sets of eggs were layed and they both have short claws. The little one doesn't do any hand motion. Once she sees the big one she goes up and starts snaping at it and it runs away. Any ideas? Thanks!

wow. i was going to ask what dixiee asked.. it sounds like male and female behavior..
well, why don't you try seperating them for a bit? or maybe getting another turtle docking area?
maybe they're fighting over territory? _________________

How big is your setup?, if it isn't big enough for them, they will fight for territory, it may get bloody too, I have read about turtles losing a leg because of territory or because of mating fights. _________________
