I was born into it....LOL
My dad had western paineted, and RES before I was born, I'm happy to say
I have about 6 of his orignal turtles, but they are all RES. and since they were around before me I'm not saying how old they are....LOL Say how long are they supose to live? I have herd different ages.
I have some were around 50 plus turtles, and at last count 35 nest, which usally avg. 10 eggs, but not all hatch...last hatch 90% did...

I have heard that they live up to 35 to 40 years, but one link that I posted a while ago said that with proper care they have the potential to live well beyond 100 year. Very Happy

I have 2 that I mes. last year at 16" just the shell, but I would say they look closer to 17" this year. The smallest Adult is about 7", most range aprox 12" to 14"

On another board that I visit, the admin guy says that the females grow to 12 inches max, I would love it if you would post a story about your turtles and how big they are, Kitty. Very Happy

Well i didn't fall in, But did get side tracked...LOL Plus wind blew paper in pond, and China took off with it...She let go as soon as she tasted it...lol
I thought this would be an easy task....Never take anything for granit... I'll just feed them, and pick them up one by one and mes....YA RIGHT! not when food is presant, they will take you out first, Don't get between turtles and there food...lol My western painted female is 16.5" just shell and almost as wide. I pulled her out of the water and I could not hang on to her...(Strong momma)I put her back in, and she turns and swims right back up to me and looks at me as if to say" What did you do that for?" and " Don't mess with the shell" My RES Females range from 12 to 16 just the shells, and my males are 10" to 10.5" my pacfic pond turtle males are 9" to 9.5" I didn't mes every turtle, just the biggest and the smallest. Oh my side track was the ##*#* Crows, they dug up a nest of turtle eggs and ate 5 eggs, they won't do that again.... Very Happy
