|
|
I have 3 RES's---2 females in a 100 gallon tank and a male in a 50. I separated them a couple of years ago because the male harassed the females to the point of biting and breaking skin.
Now I am thinking of getting rid of the tanks and installing a large indoor turtle pond. Some questions:
1. I'd like to put them all together again---what size pond, and in a large pond, will there be enough room so the females can get away from the male when he pesters them?
2. If I stick with a tank, about what size would you all recommend?
2. Is one large basking area OK, or do I need to have two? I don't think the male bothers the females out of the water.
I'm going to post this to tanks and ponds, too. Thanx |

if u did a pond, how would u approach it? small plastic outdoor tub from home depot? 2x4s for a frame etc? im not really sure i understand how u would be putting this together.. i have tons of ideas but lack the funds.. i should draw something out.. cause i too need to look at the pond senario.. i have 2 res's with a 75 gallon tank.. hmm.. ideas. |

| I decided to go with a pond, and am having someone else build it for me. Basically, about 200 gallons. It will be build using a wood frame covered with plywood, with the liner inside and a filter that sits on the bottom. We'll build a scaffold of pvc pipe over the filter and seat a wood log platform on top of that. Build brackets for the UV and basking lamps that attach to the ledge. The outer plywood will be either painted or covered in vinyl. It turns out it will be comparable in cost to buying a huge tank, better for the turtles and easier for me to maintain and keep clean. |
