HELP!!
We have two red ear slider turtles.. we\'ve had them for 5 years, and to be honest, we were ready to give them away tomorrow!!! As I was cleaning the tank tonight, I happened upon an egg. It had probably been in the water for about two hours before I realized that it needed to be in the sand. These turtles have never laid eggs before, and I dont know what to do. I imagine that there are more eggs waiting to be plopped in the sand, but my turtles dont have a sand environment (yet). Being the big softie I am, I\'m going to figure out a way to get the girl (whichever that is) into some sort of sandy area to lay her eggs.
There are a couple problems though....
1) I read that the egg can\'t be turned over.. well it was rolling in the water pretty well. I do not know which side is up.
2) I dont know if I ever saw them ummm... fertilize the eggs.
Do I invest $$ in incubation supplies and stuff on animals we were getting rid of?? Yeah, if there\'s a realistic chance the egg(s?) are viable, I will. Gladly. Can I still give the parents away? See, we\'ve had them 5 years, and originally got them for the kids. The kids dont care about them anymore, and the only time they get attention is when I clean the tank. Oh yeah, I\'ve gotten salmonella\'d a couple times. not fun. |

how sad why would you get rid of them? If they\'ve been with you for five years your obviously doing something right plus just because the kids dont want them dosent mean you gotta let them go.They are very theriputic to watch.and you shouldnt get samonella if your washing your hands before and after handling your turtles. _________________ i LOVVVVVVVVVVVE TURTLES AND I HAVE TEN RES AND ONE PAINTER,I LOVE THEM THEIR NAMES ARE SPREE,MAC,REESE,CHUBBLES,BUBBLES,CLICK, FLOAT,REESIE,CABOODLES,SHESHE, Big eyed BABY JAWS!!! I\'m sort of in the same dilemma here.. I admit, I haven\'t been very good about keeping the tank clean.. I was cleaning it out just now, though, and I found an egg. I have no clue how long its been there or what to do with it. My dad wants me to throw it away. I don\'t know if the baby is even alive. Should I try to set up an incubation thing for it? _________________ i have 2 RES, one male, one female. |
